Happy Anniversary to the Feed-in Tariff

Hard to believe, but its been a year since the then Labour Government implemented the generous feed-in tariff for renewable energy projects. It took a while to get going-thanks to most attention being on the General Election. However, the tariff spurred a huge growth in Solar PV installation with a total of 17244 installations by the end of 2010, which everyone thought was pretty good and looked forward to an even better 2011. In February 2011 the Minister of State, Greg Barker, announced his intention to launch a fast track review on the tariff, which initially put everyone in the industry into a cold sweat! Although the review caused uncertainty, the figures continued to grow with over 28,000 installations in the year to April 2011 – with the vast majority (over 93%) being residential.

To top all this good news the tariff for the period April2011 to March 2012 went up to 43.3p/kWh. So there has never been a better time for homeowners to consider installing solar PV.
