The accolade was announced at an awards lunch in London this afternoon (Friday, 16 September). It was collected by Contracts Manager Darren Warner who proudly walked off with a trophy and certificate destined for GML’s offices in Coxheath, near Maidstone. GML group Managing Director Alan Proto said: “This is marvellous news for us and a wonderful reward for our team which works incredibly hard in whatever they do. We are very proud of the project at High Ashurst, which is why we entered it into the Constructing Excellence Awards 2011 as our case study. Well done to everyone involved.’’
The entry that earned GML Construction, part of the GML group, the top prize in its category was High Ashurst, where the firm built an outdoor education centre for Surrey County Council. There is an activity building featuring an innovative timber-frame vaulted roof and four accommodation blocks.. The whole centre has been built with sustainability in mind, and features locally sourced timber-cladding and boilers which run off wood pellets. Organised by Constructing Excellence, the Constructing Excellence Awards recognise the very best in the building industry. The aim is to improve industry performance to produce a better built environment. It’s a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member-led organisation operating for the good of its industry and its stakeholders. GML Construction will now go forward to the national final on Friday, 25 November.
